Enjoy FALL LOTDs this week. Hooray for fall!
But Squids don’t have paws!
Sure they don’t.
But your fine furry friend might.
This is a simple, lightweight, warm&happy project that I am releasing for 3 simple reasons:
1. A dog is sleeping on my feet right now. And that makes me smile.
2. I know I’m not alone. Some of the top-ranking lenses out there are about animals of all [...]

How well do you know Paris? Take the test and find out. Paris fan and lensmaster fanfreluche is quizzing your knowledge AND following up with beautiful photos, wonderful stories, and exciting trivia about the capital of love.
We’re not the only ones captivated by this lens. Nominating lensmaster elizajane202 writes, “This is one of those that stand out and not only are there beautiful pictures that the author took but a history lesson, polls, a quiz and some scam warnings. I would like to one day visit Paris and this is a site that would definitely help me. I’m now following the lensmaster in case there are other stories.”
How’s that for a testimonial!

Nominate a FALL lens for LOTD.
Gil is doing a little routine maintenance on the site tomorrow night, Friday Sept 24th, at 10pm EST.
The site will be totally offline for 20-30 minutes.
Family Guy should be on Adult Swim around then. Just saying.
I threw this together for you guys last night. Some real gems here.
Here you go.
Complete with grape jelly meatballs and everything.
Pickling an onion. Simple, yes? But not boring. Flighty02 is showing us how to to complete the process from start to finish in How to Pickle an Onion. Get eight recipes that range from sweet to spicy and mild to oh-my-gosh-my-face-is-puckered.
Why do we love this lens? It’s concise, stays on track, and tells a fun story. It has all those reminders we wish we knew about BEFORE getting started (like sterilizing the jars) and has made wise use of the Amazon module. Garlic grenade, anyone?

I’m featuring the conference lens BizTechDay 2010: New York and San Francisco as LotD today for a few reasons.
The first and most important is this: I love seeing conferences use lenses in this way. “We decided to put together this Squidoo lens as a kind of digital flyer so that we can reach even just one or two or ten more people with our event. Also because it’s such an easy way to organize videos and photos and stories for you.” That’s pretty cool. I also like to see them using the Twitter Search module, often underused, which is just right to track real time buzz happening around the conference.
Sure, this kind of lens is not evergreen. Once the conference is over and the swag bags long forgotten, this lens will probably exist only as an archive. But in this case that’s okay. In the world of promoting conferences, it’s very smart to hang tasteful virtual posters like this in communities you love. Especially when there is a generous offer attached to them (see below). I wonder what small businesses could do with lenses like these.
Another reason I chose this as today’s LotD is that the BizTechDay founder has posted a special treat for Squidoo lensmasters who are local in NYC: 5 scholarship tickets to the New York conference happening this Friday, September 24th. Just for Squidoo lensmasters. So I wanted to call your attention to that offer in case it’s of interest.
Finally, in the interest of full disclosure, Squidoo is a sponsor of the event. I spoke at the BizTechDay in Seattle last weekend, and Seth is speaking at the NYC event this Friday. But the folks at BizTechDay didn’t know I was going to make this Lens of the Day, and I didn’t know they were going to give you 5 scholarship opportunities, so there’s that. And regardless, I think many of Squidoo’s entrepreneurial and ‘home business’ lensmasters would enjoy this conference quite a bit — especially those of you who run small businesses and shops online.
So if you are an event planner, a conference organizer, someone working in the social media space, or if you’re an entrepreneur or small business in New York City, this one’s for you.
A quick headsup that we’re working this week with our awesome Google AdSense account rep to try to get a little more juice from the Google text ads that run beneath the titles of lenses. Bringing a little conversion science to a site with as much traffic as ours = tiny adjustments can have a [...]
As our Squids well know, we’re always researching ways to optimize ads on lenses while protecting the sanctity of handwritten, non-advertising, original content.
This newest trial run is using the smartly evolving market.io technology to match a lens’s keywords to Amazon items. So if a lensmaster has a lens about organic pumpkin coffee beans, the market.io [...]
