Also be sure to visit Kab's lens: SquidKiva – A Kiva Community for Squidoo Lensmasters.

A lot of people have been asking me this very question…so for all the
new people who have just joined Squidoo you're in for a real treat.

The Giant Squids are the core group of movers and shakers at Squidoo. It's a gathering of the
influentials, the elite, the most passionate and dedicated on Squidoo.

Here's how this whole thing started. One day at Squidoo
Headquarters, Megan and Seth noticed something. They noticed that many
of the best lenses are built by people who have a lot of lenses.
There's an art to building a Squidoo page, and once you learn it, you
can scale it. You get addicted to it. You do it over and over again,
and your lenses get better and better.

Sure, there are plenty of
lensmasters with just 2 or 3 terrific lenses and no plans to make more,
and we're happy to have them around. Quality and content are important.
King, even. But the intersection of quality and quantity, that's a rare thing. It shows commitment, leadership, a willingness to experiment, and excellence.

So
we wanted a way to reward those people, a way to help them do even more
great work, and a way to make sure the rest of the world knows just how
unique they are. That's why we created the Giant Squids program.

So that's who the Giant Squids are. Interested in becoming one? You should be. Visit THE GIANT SQUIDS (and how you can become one) to find out how. The next deadline is Sept. 30th, 2009!

PS – Did I mention that there's perks to being a Giant? You bet there are!

SSGrad1This week the Giant Squids graduated from Summer School! Summer School was an 8 week program in which the Giant Squid created 6 super fun lenses. During the course of those 8 weeks we saw some fabulous, creative, heartfelt and just plain wonderful lenses.

So stop on by and sign their guestbook and check out some really great lenses.

Are YOU ready to be a Giant Squid?

If you have 25 lenses that you're
insanely proud of right now… go make 25 more. If you have 80 lenses,
but only a handful that you've really spent any time on… go perfect
50 of your favorites. And if you're pretty sure you have 50 or more
lenses that you'd stake your reputation on, 50 lenses that match most
of the above guidelines, then it's time to apply!

Here's how. And it's easier than you might think.
When you're ready, any time before the next deadline (Sept. 30th, 2009), just send an
email to giants@squidoo.com
. Link us to your lensmaster profile page.
That's it.

If you don't apply, we won't be able to consider you for the program. We're looking forward to hearing from you!)…from THE GIANT SQUIDS (and how you can become one)

Bdkz A lot of people have been asking me what happened to my Facebook account. The long and short of it is that I closed my Facebook account. It's not that I don't love seeing everyone it's just that I can't keep up with visiting it everyday and instead of neglecting the account I just closed it. A little time management move on my part

However, the good news is that you can see what I'm up to here on this blog or you can follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/bdkz or you can even e-mail me at bonnie@squidoo.com. I love hearing from everyone!

That's all for now.

PS – Did you know that there are still 61 days left to get 50 quality lenses to be a Giant Squid? Now you do : )

ybuttonGuest post by Giant Squid Lensmaster  Drifter0658

Men have become the gender minority in usage of the Internet, and with the volatile shifts in world economics tossing more and more men to the wolves, males are turning out by the droves to find personal financial security via the Internet.

But, the way men traditionally have used the Internet is not focused. We jump from one “cool” site to the next. Couple this with the late start at working from home and frustration can set in at the notion of being successful online.

Factor Y is a new group for male Squidoo Lensmasters that is designed to support the males working on the Internet. Through time tested methods, Factor Y will help the men realize the power of Squidoo as a tool in their efforts to gain success in any online endeavour they partake in.

For more information on Factor Y, a down-loadable Info Kit can be found at the Factor Y Home Office, or at the “public” blog. Factor Y  can also be followed on Twitter.

Look for the loud red and black badges of Factor Y to show up on lenses near you.

mukunda22lm5bafa73a489028acf30a2a95304f6cf6_1238591647KatesViolinCreating 100 awesome lenses is a super accomplishment and not something that happened overnight. New 100 Club member Mukunda22 shares some great tips while she tells us why she did it.

Because I must be insane!!
No really, I do it because it makes me feel good!
What was your motivation?
I was motivated by sheer will power. After awhile, you get into the lens making groove. I think about everything
I see in terms of making a lens or writing an article. I never used to be much of a photographer but my iPhone
takes pictures that fits into every Squidoo text module. I highly recommend the iPhone for your  lens pictures!!
How did you keep yourself going?
The teams were a help in staying on track. I was on Joan’s Jolly Judicious Jetsetter team
which was a tremendous help. And Joan herself kept me going. We do a radio show together
every week, and we are going to have a monthly open mike Giant free for all. We just had one tonight
to celebrate out Giant accomplishments, and it was a tremendous success!!
How long did it take you?
I joined Squidoo in 2006 and made a few lenses, but that was about it. I heard about Squidoo
when I read a Seth Godin interview where he recommended Squidoo and the Typepad blog. I took
him up on both things.  I got serious in 12/08 and made 50 lenses by 3/09 and 100 by 6/09.
How do you update and care for so many lenses?
I use the Daily Digest to see which lens is in most need of updating. And I use inspiration to
decide which lens I want to add to or subtract from or just update.
And why Squidoo instead of maybe making 100 posts at your own blog or {shudder} another website?
Well I have at least 4 blogs which I keep updated on a regular basis. And a few others which
I update more sporadically. I have 2 websites going on 3 so I consider Squidoo to be only one part of
my on-line presence.
My niche is healing and self-healing, with a serious interest in Single Payer Healthcare Reform.
The Lenses have been a tremendous platform for getting the word out about that!
Law of Love was my 100th lens!

Thank you for reading!
In addition to all of her other featured lenses here, don’t miss Mukunda22’s Save my Violin lens and be sure to stop by for Giant Squid Open Mike Monday!
