Bdkz A lot of people have been asking me what happened to my Facebook account. The long and short of it is that I closed my Facebook account. It’s not that I don’t love seeing everyone it’s just that I can’t keep up with visiting it everyday and instead of neglecting the account I just closed it. A little time management move on my part

However, the good news is that you can see what I’m up to here on this blog or you can follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/bdkz or you can even e-mail me at bonnie@squidoo.com. I love hearing from everyone!

That’s all for now.

PS – Did you know that there are still 61 days left to get 50 quality lenses to be a Giant Squid? Now you do : )

catsaresmarter2300-8593The debate is still on fire at my  HEY MONKEYBRAIN! lens, Cats are Smarter than Dogs.

I chose my topic hoping it would cause a stir and boy, did it ever!  It seems that people are really passionate about their pet’s intelligence.

The lens has seen steady traffic since it’s inception and the comments I receive there are always very dramatic and fun to read.

Do you have a lens that incites passion from it’s readers?

If you do please share the link here in the comments section.  If not, why not cause a stir of your own?

Choose a topic that you are passionate about and share your views.  Don’t be afraid to go against the status quo.   Chances are, there are people out there who feel the same way you do; people who are looking for a place to have their say, shout their opinion, or just meet others who feel the same way they do.

You see, opposites really do attract – opposing opinions really do attract comments, that is!

You can see one on my Week 7 Summer School Assignment lens.  (You’ll find it in place of the usual purple shield.)

While you’re there be sure to check out the list of the NEXT books our Summer School students will be reading.

This week’s challenge was to make a SquidLit lens about the NEXT book you’re going to read.

Not a book you’ve already read. Rather, make a super light lens about the book you have next on your list or bookshelf, why you want to read it, who recommends it, do a little background research about the author, and then send it or tweet it or Facebook it to 5 friends and see if anyone wants to read it with you!

Giant Squid Summer School Week #7 Assignment Lens

Here’s an idea for a lens. Do a book review.

The assignment for our Giant Squid summer school this past weekend was to make a lens about a book we plan to read and solicit people to read it with us. We could use the SquidLit template or not, totally up to us. The finished products are posted on our homework lens. There were 33 book review lenses posted there at last count. Before making yours, consider visiting a few to see what Giants are reading and building lenses about, and to get your own literary juices flowing.

Then, why not choose a favorite book, one you’ve read or one you’d like to read, and try out the fill-in-the-blanks SqudLit template? Don’t worry if you don’t know how to answer some of the questions; you’ll have a chance to change the information or even delete modules later. Fill in all the blanks and Squidoo will make a lens for you then ask if you want to keep it. If you do, give it a good URL then start editing.

If you don’t want one of the automatic modules, delete it. If you want to rename a module, do so. In fact, that’s often a good idea. If you want to add a module, do that. It’s your lens; pour on the passion to give it your own, personalized look.

Books are what sell best on Squidoo. Cash in on the action with an easy-to-make, personalized book review lens of your own.

nanltlme173bae32534970e2b38ffb00d1163c0_1240086320DSC_0054I asked some of our newest Giants to tell me who inspired them. Here’s what NanLT had to say:

“I’m one of the newest Giant Squids here at Squidoo. I’ve been asked to speak about 1 lensmaster or Squidoo lens that inspired me to become a giant.

Limiting this to just 1 person, I think, is quite difficult as there are so many here at Squidoo who influenced my beginning efforts, but if I must choose 1 person that would be Bonnie (BDKZ). From the very beginning I have seen her in there cheering people on, encouraging them, and showing just how good things can be around Squidoo.

It is Bonnie’s work with RocketMoms that really spurred me on when it came to creating quality lenses. With her help I believe that I was not only able to create well over the 50 minimum needed to become a giant, but that the lenses I did make were of a far superior quality than they could have been without her help.

Bonnie gives tirelessly in so many areas around Squidoo. And I for one am very thankful to have her around.”

That’s the question asked this week by lensmaster GrowWear on her blog, Squidoo Lens Reviews.

Let me share my answer with you:

Keyword research isn’t important at all – unless you want people to find your lens! Posting on SquidU, sharing a lens with your squid-buddies, even Tweeting a lens only goes so far. The goal is to get traffic from the web, from public, from people you never knew you needed to meet. These are the ones who don’t necessarily leave star ratings but who (hopefully, if you have a good lens) click out on your links and even make a purchase now and then. Can’t earn money for yourself or for charity without those clickouts, and you won’t get clickouts if you don’t get traffic which found you because of, that’s right, great keywords.
